We are farmers who got tired of being price-takers.
For as long as anyone here can remember, the same arrangement held. We bought seed and fertiliser at whatever the shop asked, often on credit at interest we couldn’t calculate. We sold our harvest at whatever the trader offered on the day he arrived, because the crop was already cut and there was nowhere to keep it.
Buying alone, we were small. Selling alone, we were smaller.
In March 2023, we registered a company of our own. Today 3,054 women hold shares in it, and every share is held by a woman who farms.
