Farming that will still work in twenty years
Our members’ land is their only real asset. A farmer-owned company has no reason to sell more chemical than the soil needs; the alignment is structural, not goodwill.
What we are doing
- Soil testing before recommendation, so what a member applies matches what her land needs.
- The right seed for this land—varieties suited to local soil, water and season.
- Organic manure and dhaincha (green manure) to build soil as well as feed the crop.
- Collective business: doing together what cannot be done alone.
A long view
Year-on-year increases in fertiliser to hold the same yield, falling water tables and harder soil can spend a farm’s value without anyone noticing. The approach is to build soil and livelihoods for the next generation.
